I defended my Ph.D. thesis (December 2011), under the guidance of Professor Vassilis Tsotras,
in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University
of California, Riverside. During my Ph.D. studies, I was a member of the Database Lab.
Prior to joining UCR, I received my M.Sc. Degree in Computer Science (2004) from
University of São Paulo at
São Carlos and my B.S. Degree in Computer Engineering (2001) from
Federal University of São Carlos, Brazil.
After I graduated, I worked for IBM Research at the Rio de Janeiro Lab until the beginning of 2015. I conducted research in the following areas:
(1) machine learning techniques for big data analytics in the areas of oil and gas,
mining, water and transportation; (2) scalable data analytics platform for oil and
gas, and agriculture; and (3) techniques to speed up processing of complex pattern
queries using GPU- and FPGA-based architectures for spatio-temporal data.
