Clinton Buys One, Gets One Free

WASHINGTON, D.C.--Yesterday afternoon, White House Press Secretary Joe Lockhart revealed that President Clinton has bought one and gotten one free.

Said Lockhart: "As has already been widely speculated, earlier this week the President did indeed buy one and get one free."

Republicans on Capitol Hill were not surprised by the news of Clinton's discount.

"This is just another example of the President's traditional liberal 'tax and spend and save' policy," said Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, R-Miss.

Senator Lott reminded reporters of other such events that have occurred during Clinton's presidency: the time in late 1994 when Clinton bought one and got the second one at half price; and, of course, most notably, the time in 1997 when he got three for the price of one.

Word of Clinton's buying one and getting one free immediately raised suspicion among the press and public alike. But Lockhart denied that Clinton had planned this latest sale transaction ahead of time.

"I want to stress that the President had no advance knowledge of this 'buy one, get one free' sale," said Lockhart. "He had originally intended to buy just one and he accepted the second one when told that it was free."

When asked what Clinton intends to do with two, Lockhart replied, "He will most likely save one for later."
